How to open your flash drive using Windows PC

This page will teach you how to connect your Flash Drive. After you access your files and you are finished, it is important to eject your Flash Drive before removing it from your computer.

Find the USB port
on your computer.

USB ports can be found on the front or back of the computer if you have a desktop. If you are working on a laptop, it will be on the side.

Place the flash drive in the port.

Carefully place your flash drive into the port. If it does not go in easily, make sure it is facing the right way and try again.

Wait a few seconds

Sometimes it can take a few seconds for your computer to "see" your flash drive and recognize it. Be sure to let it have a moment after plugging it in.

Click Start

At the bottom left corner of your home screen, you can find the start button. Click here to get started.

Use the search bar

In the search bar at the top of your start menu, type in "File Explorer."

Open File Explorer

After your search, click in either of the two red circles to open File Explorer.

Find "This PC"

In the menu on your far left, look for "This PC." Once you have found it, click on it to continue.

Find your flash drive

Your flash drive should appear under "This PC." When you are ready, click on it to continue.

Find your files

After clicking on your flash drive, you will find all of your files in the menu on the right.

Rearrange or copy your files

Now that you can access your files, you are free to make any changes or duplicates to share with your family!
