Slide Scanning
35mm
The most popular slide format using a 2" by 2" square frame. Scanning 35mm slides that were properly exposed and in focus can produce a very good digital file.
110 Slides
Introduced in 1972 this was a miniature version of the 126 film format. Due to the small size of the image frames, the digital files are grainy and can have poor definition.
126 & 127 Slides
These slides use the same 2"x2" frame but are square and slightly bigger than a 35mm slide. Scanning 126/127 slides that were properly exposed and in focus can produce a very good file.
Medium Format Super Slides
Medium format film was cut down to fit in a modified 2"x2" slide frame. The larger 1.5"x1.5" image size produces a higher resolution digital file that can be enlarged more than a 35mm slide.
3D Stereo Slide
Stereo slides were created from two images taken simultaneously by a special camera. The two images are slightly offset from one another, creating the three - dimensional effect. Only one image is scanned to create a digital file.

Negative Scanning
35mm Negative
The most popular negative format and is still used by professionals and consumers. Scanning film that was properly exposed and in focus produces good digital files.
110 Negatives
Introduces in 1972, this was a miniature version of the 126 film format. Due to the small size of the image frames, the digital files are grainy and do not produce very good images.
Disk Film
Introduced in 1982, Disc film did not prove hugely successful, mainly because the image on the negative is only 10mm by 8mm, leading to generally unacceptable grain and poor definition in the final photographs.
126 Negative
Introduced in 1963, this film was a drop in cartridge that was used in Kodak's Instamatic point and shoot cameras. It was discontinued in 2008.
120 Medium Format Film
Used by professional photographers, the large image size can produce a high resolution digital file that can be enlarged.
Large Format Film
Large format film ranged in size from 4"x5" up to 8"x10". A large digital image can be created from the bigger film size.
